Error 200 means IBKR could not resolve the requested product to one contract. Compare the full contract description, including exchange, currency, and expiry where needed. A chart ticker alone may not identify the product you want to trade.
Educational software guidance. Trading involves risk. Read the financial and information disclaimers.
Step by step
- 1 Find the product in a TWS watchlist without creating an order.
- 2 Right-click it and open Financial Instrument Info → Description.
- 3 Compare its security type, currency, exchange, and contract month with the app mapping. For options, also compare strike and call or put.
- 4 Correct the mapping in the app that creates the request. Use the actual contract, not a continuous chart symbol.
- 5 Request the contract again and confirm its description before any order test.
A practical example
Suppose a stock ticker exists in two markets. You want the listing priced in one currency, but the app sends only the short name. TWS may ask for more detail. Open the stock you want in TWS and read its full Description. Compare the listing and currency with the app. A lookup that returns a different stock is not a successful fix, even if the error goes away.

Common questions
Can two stocks share a ticker?
Yes. The listing exchange and currency help identify the intended one.
Does reconnecting fix a bad contract?
A reconnect does not correct the fields in the request.
