TWS settings and performance

Set stock order defaults in TWS Presets

Quick answer

TWS stock presets define defaults such as time in force, size, and primary order type. They are starting values, not proof of the final order. Inspect the actual ticket, especially when an external app supplies its own fields.

Step by step

  1. 1 Open Global Configuration → Presets → Stocks.
  2. 2 Review Timing and Size, including size units and outside-hours behavior.
  3. 3 Review Primary Order values and any attached-order sections before making a change.
  4. 4 Apply only the defaults you intend for this asset class.
  5. 5 Open a new paper stock ticket and check its complete values without sending it.

A practical example

You set a default of 100 shares for a new stock ticket. A later order from an app asks for five shares. Do not assume the preset must force that app order to 100. The app may send its own value. Read the final ticket or broker record. Defaults save typing, but the final size, type, and price are the values that govern the order.

Illustrative scenario, not a record of a trade placed during this review.

Mistake to avoid

A ticker-specific preset or an explicitly supplied API field can produce a different result from the general stock preset.

Common questions

Will changing a preset rewrite working orders?

Inspect existing orders separately; do not assume a new default edits them.

Does it control every PickMyTrade field?

The app may send explicit values. Verify the final request or order.
