TWS settings and performance

Check TWS futures order presets

Quick answer

Use Presets → Futures to check default contract count, order type, and timing. Confirm the specific futures contract as well. The preset does not choose a safe size or the correct expiry for your strategy.

Step by step

  1. 1 Open Global Configuration → Presets → Futures.
  2. 2 Review size units and the Use closing position size option.
  3. 3 Check primary order type and price offsets, which can differ from stock defaults.
  4. 4 Review time in force and session settings for the intended product.
  5. 5 Preview a new paper ticket for the exact expiry and check every value.

A practical example

A futures ticket opens with one contract and a market order. You expected a limit order instead. Inspect Presets → Futures, then open a fresh paper ticket to see what it uses. Do not change the whole order just to make it match a screenshot. The screenshot’s values belong to the captured setup. Your own defaults should fit the workflow you chose and still be checked on the final ticket.

Mistake to avoid

A micro contract and a larger contract can share a similar product name while having different exposure.

Common questions

Does a futures preset roll my position?

No. A preset supplies order defaults; contract rollover requires separate handling.

Should I assume the screenshot’s values are recommended?

No. Screenshots show control locations, not recommended trade settings.
