Market-data permission controls the prices you receive. Trading permission controls the products you may trade. Diagnose a missing quote separately from an order rejection, even when both affect the same symbol.

Step by step
- 1 Write down whether the problem is a missing price or a rejected order.
- 2 For a quote problem, check the exact market-data access and data type.

In TWS, Account → Subscribe to Market Data/Research opens the market-data subscription page.
The Market Data Subscriptions page in Client Portal shows current subscriptions and the market-data subscriber status. - 3 For a trading rejection, check the broker’s reason and your approved product and market permissions.

In TWS, Account → Trading Permissions opens the permissions page for the account.
The Trading Permissions page lists each asset class with an Add/Edit button for the product and market you need. - 4 Confirm the account and username are the ones you meant to use.

In Client Portal, the profile icon at the top right opens the user and account details to confirm which login you are in. - 5 Recheck each function separately after the needed approval or subscription change.
A practical example
Think of two separate questions: May this user see this feed? May this account trade this product? A yes to one does not answer the other. If an order is refused, keep its full reason. If a price is missing, keep the feed error. A support ticket that says only IBKR does not work mixes two checks that need different fixes.

Common questions
Can I see prices but be unable to trade?
Yes. Data access does not prove trading approval.
Can an order be accepted without the same displayed feed?
Do not use order acceptance as proof of a data subscription; check the data access directly.
