TWS prices stop changing after the market closes

Quick answer

A closed market can leave last prices unchanged, and frozen data can show the last available values. Check the contract’s trading hours and the data type before treating a still quote as a network failure.

Step by step

  1. 1 Open the contract Description and read its trading schedule.
  2. 2 Compare the current time using the exchange’s time zone.
  3. 3 Check whether the quote is live, delayed, frozen, or delayed-frozen.
  4. 4 Look for a genuine connection or data access error alongside the still price.
  5. 5 Check again during the next supported active session.

A practical example

A stock’s last trade remains on screen late at night. That price tells you about a past trade. It does not prove that a buyer or seller is there now at the same price. Read the market schedule and feed mode. If you want to check for a fault, compare a product in an active session and inspect the connection state too.

Illustrative scenario, not a record of a trade placed during this review.

Mistake to avoid

A last trade price is not a guarantee that you can buy or sell at that price now.

Common questions

Does frozen mean the whole app is frozen?

No. Frozen is also a defined market-data mode.

Should I restart every time prices stop?

First check market hours and whether other controls still respond.
