Separate remote-desktop lag, delayed market data and slow order responses. Compare timestamps and logs before changing the network. A DNS change, VPN removal or nearby VPS does not automatically improve an already established trading connection.

Identify the delayed component
| Observation | Useful comparison |
|---|---|
| RDP screen redraw is slow | Check host application timestamps and host resource use |
| Quote timestamps fall behind | Compare contracts, sessions and the market-data connection |
| Order acknowledgement is delayed | Match request and broker-response records |
| Reconnect fails during name lookup | Investigate DNS and the supported endpoint |
| Several applications disconnect together | Investigate the shared host/network path and provider notices |
Change one justified variable
On a local computer, compare a stable wired connection with the existing link if appropriate. On a VPS, a virtual Ethernet adapter does not prove the underlying network has no congestion. Check scheduled uploads/downloads and bandwidth saturation without disabling necessary security or backups indiscriminately.
A VPN may be part of the required secure access architecture. Do not turn it off as a generic latency fix. DNS mainly affects resolving an endpoint; changing resolvers is not evidence of lower latency on an established session. Router QoS is relevant only when the controlled bottleneck and supported traffic policy justify it.
Use the correct diagnostics
Obtain permitted endpoints and protocols from the provider. Do not assume every gateway answers ICMP or use a public website's HTTPS response as proof the trading service works. Preserve packet-loss/reconnect timestamps and the exact application error; a single successful ping cannot establish stability.
Evaluate the result
Compare the same workload and interval before/after a change. Use aligned clocks and distinguish median behavior from bursts and failures. Microsoft's time guidance identifies network and resource conditions that affect clock accuracy. No fixed millisecond improvement was measured here.

Common questions
Does faster DNS always mean faster fills?
No. It is not a measure of the established order path.
Should I disable the firewall?
No. Use the provider’s exact supported requirements and narrow diagnosis.
Does ping failure prove an outage?
No. ICMP may be filtered while the application service remains reachable.
Can RDP lag coexist with current server-side activity?
Yes. The display and trading paths are different; inspect actual state.
