Rithmic firewall checks: verify the route before changing rules

Quick answer

Obtain the current endpoint and port requirements for your exact Rithmic interface and provider before changing firewall rules. Check whether the failure concerns a direct server connection or a local plugin connection. A successful HTTPS test to the public Rithmic website does not test the trading route.

Identify the connection being tested

Record the application/version, System, Gateway and whether it uses a direct connection or a local R Trader Pro plugin host. Preserve the exact error and time. Quantower's connection guide specifically includes the connection between Quantower and R Trader Pro in its plugin checks. That is a different path from a browser opening a public website.

Obtain a precise network requirement

Ask the provider or platform support for the current destination hostnames, protocols, ports and traffic direction. Include your connection mode. Do not rely on a generic list of 443, 80 or unspecified dynamic ports as a verified Rithmic configuration.

Check What it can establish What it cannot establish
Public website loads Access to that website Access to the selected trading endpoint
TCP test to a documented endpoint succeeds A connection to that host and port Credentials, entitlement or order acceptance
Firewall log shows a blocked process Evidence of a local policy event Whether every reported trading problem has the same cause
Platform login succeeds Authentication for that interface Data or order permission for every account

Review a blocked application

  1. Confirm the application came from the official vendor or provider route.
  2. Match the actual executable and blocked destination to the support instructions.
  3. Ask the device or network administrator to review any managed policy.
  4. If an exception is required, limit it to the necessary application, direction and network profile.
  5. Retest the original platform connection and retain the result. Remove temporary rules that are no longer needed.

Microsoft's firewall guidance explains why allowing a known application is generally narrower than leaving a port open. It does not justify enabling every public and private profile or disabling protection as a generic trading fix.

Antivirus, VPN and corporate networks

A security warning is not proof of a false positive. Verify the installer source and publisher and use the vendor's support process before proceeding. Do not exclude an entire trading folder from scanning or bypass a warning merely because a tutorial says the application is legitimate.

If a VPN or managed network appears involved, give its administrator the documented endpoint requirements and failure times. Compare an approved alternative route only when permitted. Do not use a VPS or hotspot to bypass an organization's network policy.

Common questions

Does Rithmic only use port 443?

No universal port list was verified in this review. Obtain the requirements for the exact product and connection mode.

Does testing rithmic.com prove the trading connection works?

No. It tests the public hostname and selected port, which may differ from your trading route.

Should I disable the firewall to make login work?

No blanket disablement is needed for this diagnostic process. Inspect evidence and use a narrowly scoped, administrator-approved rule when a documented requirement calls for it.

Do I need a screenshot of an antivirus exclusion?

No. This guide does not recommend creating one. A redacted blocked-connection log is more useful evidence for an actual network incident.
