Rithmic Data Feed Slow: Compare Contract, Time and Display

Quick answer

Confirm the same product/expiry, data source and timestamp before calling a price difference latency. Then inspect connection logs, session routing and resource use around the event. A static chart, a delayed subscription and a busy display are different possibilities. No gateway, VPS or aggregation switch guarantees a faster feed for every workflow.

Compare like with like

Check What to record
Instrument Product, expiry and exchange in both displays
Data Provider, real-time/delayed entitlement and depth needed
Time Quote/event timestamp, timezone and clock context
Display Chart interval, session and any continuous adjustment
Connection Direct/plugin route and competing sessions
Workload CPU/memory/network observations around the delay

The native reference below shows a populated ESZ6 Quote Board at one moment. It is not a side-by-side latency comparison:

Actual native ES quote row with bid, offer and last-trade fields; single observation, not a performance benchmark

A practical investigation

  1. Confirm exchange access and the intended contract, especially around expiry changes.
  2. Preserve the exact symptom and timestamp rather than estimating from memory.
  3. Check whether data alone stalled or another service also disconnected.
  4. Review the connector's direct/plugin setup and allowed sessions.
  5. Measure the local workload when the symptom occurs; do not label high CPU without a measurement.
  6. Compare with an appropriate supported reference during a permitted investigation and send the evidence to the provider.

Quantower's issues guide and Sierra Chart's Rithmic guide describe platform-specific data and history issues. Apply the matching branch, not another platform's diagnosis automatically.

Avoid unmeasured fixes

A geographically nearby gateway can be a supported starting point, but its name is not a benchmark. An aggregation or display setting can also change what information the app displays; confirm its meaning and compatibility before changing it. A network ping does not measure the complete quote-to-screen or order-to-fill path.

If positions exist, identify locally managed actions before reconnecting software. A stale display does not establish that orders were canceled or remain protected.

Common questions

Does a price difference prove Rithmic is slow?

First match contract, data source, session and timestamp. The two displays may be showing different information.

Is high CPU always the cause?

No. Measure it at the relevant time and compare it with the symptom; correlation alone may not establish cause.

Should I always change gateways?

Use supported choices and a controlled comparison after assessing active workflow dependencies. See gateway selection.

Does a faster internet speed test guarantee better trading?

No. It tests a particular network route, not the complete account/execution workflow.
