Rithmic Colocation vs a Chicago VPS

Quick answer

A VPS in the Chicago area is not automatically exchange colocation. Identify where each software component runs and which network path it uses. Physical proximity can shorten part of a path, but it does not prove end-to-end order latency or fill quality.

Compare hosting terms precisely

Term What to establish
Regional VPS Actual data center, shared/dedicated resources and provider network route
Dedicated host Resource isolation, management and network connectivity
Colocation Named facility, equipment placement and the contracted connectivity
API/service endpoint The supported access point for your account/application

Map the full path

For a desktop strategy, consider signal computation, local processing, network transmission, risk checks and exchange response. For TradingView plus a cloud receiver, the signal and receiver may run elsewhere; moving a monitoring desktop does not relocate those components.

Rithmic's API directory describes distinct API products and access requirements. Marketing latency figures for one product or architecture are not a benchmark for a retail VPS, plugin client or webhook service.

Evaluate a hosting proposal

Ask for the actual facility and permitted endpoint, resource guarantees, Windows licence, backup/recovery provisions, maintenance policy and all recurring charges. Measure the relevant interval using comparable conditions and aligned clocks. Do not probe guessed private gateway addresses or interpret a generic website ping as the order path.

Keep the benchmark honest

Record sample count, load, gateway, timestamps and failures. Ping measures network round trip only where the destination permits it; missing ICMP responses do not prove the trading service is down. Microsoft's time-accuracy guidance explains why merely enabling time synchronization does not establish precise cross-host measurement.

No colocation service was purchased or measured in this library. The native Gateway dropdown below shows available labels, not the machine's physical location or a latency guarantee.

Common questions

Is Chicago Area proof my VPS is colocated?

No. It is a selected gateway label.

Does one-millisecond ping prove one-millisecond execution?

No. It omits processing, risk, queue and fill behavior.

Will moving a desktop speed up a cloud receiver?

Only components and paths actually moved can change; measure the whole route.

Are price ranges universal?

No. Compare dated quotes with the same resources, connectivity and management scope.

Financial disclaimer

These guides explain software and workflows. They are for education, not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. No example is a suggestion to buy or sell a product or use a trading strategy. Trading futures involves substantial risk and can lose money, including all funds you put at risk. Leverage can cause losses that exceed your starting funds. Automation can fail, send duplicate orders, or act late. Stop orders do not guarantee execution or a specific exit price; their behaviour depends on the order type and applicable exchange rules. Review your orders and positions, and consult a qualified professional for your own situation. Paper trades, examples, and past results do not predict live results or promise a profit.
