What is automated futures trading?
Automated futures trading is the use of software to place, manage and close futures orders automatically based on rules you define, instead of entering every order by hand. The rules can come from a TradingView strategy, an indicator, or a manual chart alert. When a rule triggers, the automation tool sends the order straight to your futures broker.
People often use "algorithmic trading" and "automated trading" as if they mean the same thing, but there is a useful distinction. Algorithmic trading usually refers to writing the algorithm itself: the code or Pine Script logic that decides when to buy and sell. Automated trading refers to the execution layer that takes those decisions and places the orders for you. PickMyTrade sits on the execution side. You (or your Pine Script) create the strategy; PickMyTrade automates the order placement across one or many futures accounts. You do not need to know how to code to use it.
How PickMyTrade automates your futures trades
PickMyTrade connects TradingView to your futures broker with a webhook. Here is the flow in plain terms: your TradingView strategy or indicator fires an alert, TradingView sends a small webhook message to PickMyTrade, and PickMyTrade reads the symbol, side, size and risk settings and places the order on your connected broker account. Everything happens in seconds. PickMyTrade processes your order in under 200ms on our side, while your total fill time also depends on your broker, network latency and how quickly TradingView sends the alert.
Three things make this practical for everyday traders. There is no coding: PickMyTrade builds the alert message and the webhook URL for you, so if you can create a TradingView alert, you can automate it. There is no broker WebAPI or developer setup: you connect your account inside PickMyTrade and it handles the rest. And there is no VPS: the whole flow runs in the cloud 24/7, so your trades keep executing even when your computer and your broker app are switched off. Webhook alerts do require a paid TradingView plan (Essential or higher), because free TradingView accounts cannot send webhooks.
Supported futures brokers and platforms
PickMyTrade automates the futures brokers and platforms that active US futures traders actually use. On the futures side that includes Tradovate, Rithmic, Interactive Brokers, TradeStation and ProjectX. Whichever you connect, the same TradingView webhook drives it, so you can trade the E-mini and Micro E-mini contracts you already follow: MES and MNQ (Micro E-mini S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100), ES and NQ (the full-size E-minis), MGC (Micro Gold) and more.
Ready to connect one? Open the setup guide for your broker: TradingView to Rithmic, TradingView to Interactive Brokers, TradingView to TradeStation, or TradingView to ProjectX. Trading Tradovate? Use the Tradovate futures automation page.
Automated futures trading on prop firm accounts
A large share of futures traders now trade funded and evaluation accounts from prop firms, and PickMyTrade is built to automate them. You can run your TradingView strategy on prop-firm accounts from Apex, Topstep, Alpha Futures, Take Profit Trader, FundedNext Futures, MyFundedFutures, TradeDay and Tradeify, among others.
One point to be clear and honest about: there are two kinds of copy trading, and firms treat them differently. Internal copy trading means routing your own strategy alerts to funded accounts that you own. External copy trading means subscribing to a third-party signal seller or letting someone else manage your account, which most firms prohibit. PickMyTrade is built for the internal case. It automates your own alerts on your own accounts, so you stay in control. Copy trading and automation rules vary by prop firm and change over time, including how many accounts you can run, so always confirm your specific firm's current policy before you go live. See our prop firm automation policy and the full list of supported prop firms.
What you need to get started
You need three things to automate futures trading with PickMyTrade: a charting and strategy platform, PickMyTrade itself, and a futures broker or prop-firm account. Here is the realistic cost to begin.
| What it is | Tool | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Charting and strategy (sends the webhook alerts) | TradingView, paid plan | From about $12.95/mo |
| Automation (places the trades for you) | PickMyTrade | $50/mo or $500/yr (5-day free trial, no card) |
| Broker or prop-firm account (holds the trades) | Tradovate, Rithmic, IB, TradeStation or ProjectX | Platform and data fees vary; many prop firms bundle them |
| Typical starting cost | TradingView + PickMyTrade | About $63/mo, before broker data and any prop-firm fees |
That is the honest all-in picture. The two software costs you control directly are TradingView (from about $12.95 a month for a plan that can send webhooks) and PickMyTrade ($50 a month, or $500 a year). Broker and prop-firm costs sit on top and depend on which account you trade. See our pricing page for the full breakdown.
Minimum capital and margin for automated futures
You do not need a large account to automate futures, because micro contracts let you trade with small size. A realistic starting range is $500 to $1,000 for micro futures (MES, MNQ), and roughly $5,000 to $10,000 if you want to trade the full-size E-minis (ES, NQ) with breathing room. Prop-firm evaluations are another low-capital route, since you pay an evaluation fee rather than funding the full account yourself.
Intraday (day-trade) margin is what your broker requires to hold one contract during the session, and it varies a lot by broker and by market conditions. As a rough, broker-dependent guide:
| Contract | Market | Typical intraday margin (per contract) |
|---|---|---|
| MES | Micro E-mini S&P 500 | About $50 to $500 |
| MNQ | Micro E-mini Nasdaq-100 | About $100 to $800 |
| ES | E-mini S&P 500 | About $500 to $1,500 |
| NQ | E-mini Nasdaq-100 | About $1,000 to $2,000 |
These figures are examples, not a quote. Always check the live intraday and overnight margins with your own broker, because they change with volatility and differ between firms.
Contract rollover and continuous symbols
Futures contracts expire, so an automated system has to handle rollover from one contract month to the next. PickMyTrade supports auto-rollover when you use continuous symbols on your TradingView chart. A continuous symbol (for example the front-month feed) always points at the active contract, so your automation follows the roll without you rewriting the alert every quarter.
If you prefer to trade a specific contract month, you can, but you are then responsible for updating your symbol and alerts when that contract nears expiry. For most automated strategies, continuous symbols with auto-rollover are the simpler, safer choice.
Automated futures trading strategies you can run
You can automate almost any rules-based futures strategy that you can express as a TradingView alert. Common examples include breakout strategies that enter when price clears a level, mean-reversion strategies that fade extremes back toward a moving average, and scalping strategies that take many small trades on lower timeframes. If your logic lives in a Pine Script strategy or indicator, PickMyTrade can execute its alerts.
One honest caveat worth stating plainly: the strategy determines your results, not the automation. PickMyTrade is the execution layer that places your trades quickly and consistently across your accounts. It does not generate signals, promise profits or pick winners for you. A strong, well-tested strategy with disciplined risk management is what makes automated futures trading work. Automation simply makes sure that strategy runs exactly as designed, every time, without hesitation or missed clicks.
Set up automated futures trading in 4 steps
Most traders finish in under ten minutes. There is nothing to code.
- 1. Connect your broker. Create a PickMyTrade account and connect your futures broker or prop-firm account (live, demo or evaluation).
- 2. Build or import your TradingView alert. Use your own Pine Script strategy or indicator, or a manual chart alert, as the signal source.
- 3. Map the webhook to PickMyTrade. In PickMyTrade, generate the alert message and webhook URL, then paste them into your TradingView alert and set the webhook URL in the alert's notifications tab.
- 4. Go live. Fire a test alert on a 1-minute chart, confirm the fill in your PickMyTrade alert log and in your broker, then enable the alert. From now on your futures trades run automatically.
For step-by-step screenshots, see the PickMyTrade setup documentation.
Pricing and free trial
PickMyTrade is $50 per month or $500 per year, and every account starts with a 5-day free trial that needs no credit card. The subscription covers unlimited alerts and tickers and works with demo, live and prop-firm accounts. You can test automated futures trading end to end during the trial before you pay anything. See the full pricing page for details.
PickMyTrade vs other automated futures platforms
Most "automated trading bots" you will find are either generic crypto bots or closed systems that sell you their signals. PickMyTrade is different in two ways. First, it is broker-native for futures: it connects directly to Tradovate, Rithmic, Interactive Brokers, TradeStation and ProjectX, including prop-firm accounts, rather than only crypto exchanges. Second, it runs your strategy, not someone else's: you keep your TradingView logic and PickMyTrade just executes it, so you are never renting a black-box signal. It is no-code, cloud-based (no VPS), and priced as one flat subscription. Want the bot framing? See how PickMyTrade works as a futures trading bot. Running the same alerts across several funded accounts? See our futures trade copier. For a side-by-side look at how it compares to other automation tools, see our comparison pages.
Configurazione in 5 minuti.
- Account broker — Tradovate (micro futures senza commissioni), Rithmic o Interactive Brokers
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro E-mini S&P 500 | MES | $1.25 | $50-$500 |
| Micro E-mini Nasdaq | MNQ | $0.50 | $100-$800 |
| E-mini S&P 500 | ES | $12.50 | $500-$6,600 |
| E-mini Nasdaq 100 | NQ | $5.00 | $1,000-$8,800 |
| Micro Gold | MGC | $1.00 | $100-$500 |
| Crude Oil | CL | $10.00 | $1,000-$5,000 |
- 5.000 $ e oltre — Puoi diversificare su più micro contratti o passare all'E-mini
- Abbonamento a TradingView: 12,95-49,95 $/mese
Sebbene spesso usati in modo intercambiabile, esistono differenze sottili:
- Trading algoritmico (algo trading) — Trading basato su modelli matematici e algoritmi complessi, che spesso implica analisi statistica, machine learning o strategie quantitative.
Consigliato come tuo primo contratto automatizzato.
- Micro E-mini S&P 500 (MES) — 1,25 $/tick, leggermente meno volatile dell'MNQ, molto liquido.
Yes, you can automate evaluation and funded accounts, and internal automation of your own strategy on your own accounts is allowed at most major futures prop firms including Apex, Topstep and Tradeify. What firms prohibit is external copy trading, meaning buying third-party signals or letting someone else manage your account. Rules differ by firm and change over time, so confirm your firm's current automation policy first.
PickMyTrade is $50 per month or $500 per year, and every account starts with a 5-day free trial that needs no credit card. The plan works with demo, live and prop-firm accounts. Your other costs are a paid TradingView plan (from about $12.95 a month, needed to send webhooks) and your broker or prop-firm account.
You can automate any rules-based strategy you can express as a TradingView alert, including breakout, mean-reversion and scalping strategies built from Pine Script strategies or indicators. PickMyTrade executes the alerts across your connected futures accounts. Remember that the strategy drives your results; PickMyTrade is the execution layer that runs it quickly and consistently.
